Recording MC Jibber Jabber

A couple of weeks ago we recorded the final version of a song Jamie (Nicholas Kato) and his housemate Jefferson (Alasdair Tremblay-Birchall) make up while drunk one night. The recording session was tons of fun and half the time Nathan, Al, and I were just laughing at how stupid the whole thing is. (Don't worry, it's actually supposed to be stupid.)

The instrumental that Nathan created is absolutely perfect for the mood we're going for, and Al & I (with some assistance from my co-writer Jack) worked really hard on making the lyrics as funny as we could. This is actually the third song Al and I wrote for this scene. The first two tracks were pretty good, but not as hilarious as we'd like. Overall, we probably spent about a month on and off coming up with the concept and lyrics for the final version. I know from experience that writing a comedy musical is really tricky to get right, and this song was no different. However, the process was really illuminating, and I found it really interesting getting a feel for what was going to be funny, and why certain things got laughs while others didn't.

I wish I could share the track with you now, but sadly you'll have to wait until the movie is finished. For now, here are some BTS stills from the recording session:

P.S. Many thanks to everyone who patiently listened and gave us feedback on previous versions of the track. It was a HUGE help!
